Silence Speaks College Tips

Congratulations - college tips

To all graduates

I wish you all great health, wealth, and success.

Life is a journey. Complete with many milestones. As you celebrate this moment, may you plant and fertilize your life’s seeds.

My advice for all graduates is to create a life and goal plan to identify what you want to be in life, what are your goals and dreams, and map out an action plan. You must know this - This society is built on degrees, merits, and connections. The only exception is if you have vast experience and are an expert in a specific field(these are rare occurrences). You can gain degrees, merits, and connections by going to college.

I was having a talk with my niece and explaining to her that it is difficult to compare high school to college in any way. College and college life is different in every way; the classes, the work, the lessons/instructions, the teachers, the students, the experiences. One of the first steps is to determine what you want to be in life. Once this is identified, you can then create and map out an action plan to reach your goal. There are options, such as a 4-year colleges(in-state and out-of-state), community colleges, and trade schools. Those that are unsure can start with a two-year community college and then transfer to a four-year college to complete the remaining two years. You can also contact companies, in your desired industry, and interview professionals to learn more about what they would recommend. Also, try internships and mentorship programs.

Whatever you do, have a plan. This is a phase in your life where you become an adult and have the freedom to go after your dreams. College will prepare you and enable you to be successful in reaching your dreams. Start early. Most colleges have counselors that you can contact for information. You can also order informational packages. It’s very important to ensure that the your school offers the degree and major that you seek. Also, research financial aid and grants. Start reaching out to colleges, speak to faculty and counselors, and students. Be mindful on application deadlines. Some schools offer tours to get more information. Some colleges offer online courses. Grab a writing instrument and paper and begin to detail and set goals. Life is what you make it and you can be anything your mind perceives and dreams. Have a plan. We don’t plan to fail. We fail to plan. Be the captain of your ship. Row your boat. Gently. Enjoy the journey.

I wouldn’t trade my college years for anything. You’ll learn, grow, meet people, learn new things, and you’ll see that your biggest dreams will be the least that you attain if you work hard and smart. Go to college, you’ll see.
